BatteryPlat is a Spanish technological energy storage platform. Its focus spans the entire spectrum of energy storage technologies: electrochemical, chemical, thermal, mechanical, and electromagnetic storage. It has 90 entities: companies, SMEs, start-ups, universities, public research bodies, research centres, and other administrative entities.
BatteryPlat’s objective is to promote the development of energy storage technologies irrespective of their level of technological maturity. It was created with the support of the Ministry of Science and Innovation and is presented as a key interlocutor by the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge for implementing its Energy Storage Strategy.
It is structured around workgroups of platform members with common interests in particular topics, aiming to identify innovative solutions. Currently, there are three:
- Technologies: Aiming to identify and monitor available and developing storage technologies.
- Markets: Seeking to create a niche of business opportunities, collaboration and knowledge for the actors in the storage systems market
- Circular Economy: To make visible the importance of reusing batteries in preserving the environment and avoiding dependence on third countries to supply raw materials.
Ultimately, BatteryPlat is the technology platform that aims to place Spain at the forefront of energy storage in Europe and worldwide.
Silbat has been accepted into Batteryplat, seeking its contribution and valuing its potential to develop a technology that can help to introduce long-duration energy storage as a mainstream option.
