Silbat Energy Storage Solutions Sponsors Publication on Spanish Military Industrial Heritage

We are excited to announce the publication of a new book stemming from the II Forum on Spanish Military Industrial Heritage, released by the Academy of Military Arts and Sciences of Spain. This book encapsulates valuable insights from the forum and transforms them into engaging chapters that highlight the contributions of Spanish military engineers. Commitment to Dual-Natured Technology

Silbat Energy Storage Solutions is proud to have sponsored this publication, reinforcing our strong belief in the power of dual-natured technology and its benefits for society. Our Long- Duration Energy Storage (LDES) technology, designed for tens of hours of storage with a capital expenditure of less than $15/kWh, aims to enhance energy supply resiliency for both civil and military critical infrastructure. This mission is actively pursued through our ongoing project, ARMIC.

A Personal Connection

Also, our scientific background is closely intertwined with the rich history of Spanish Military Heritage, as reflected in the atmosphere of our meeting room at Silbat, where discussions and ideas come to life. We proudly showcase a gallery of portraits featuring pioneering scientists, engineers, and even a poet and an actor who have laid the foundation for our development and operations. Among these notable figures are two remarkable Spaniards:

  • Queen Isabella of Castile, recognised as one of history's first successful venture capitalists for funding Columbus' expedition, achieved a remarkable internal rate of return.
  • Isaac Peral, an Armada Lieutenant who developed the first fully electric submarine in 1888. The advanced batteries he created for this submarine were later adapted for civil applications and manufactured industrially in Madrid, with patents acquired by the Belgian manufacturer Tudor (now Exide Group)—a testament to the successful dual-natured military project in energy storage.

Celebrating Achievements

The book launch event was a fantastic celebration of this achievement and of the accomplishments of Spanish military engineers. We extend our heartfelt thanks to General Manfredo Monforte of the Engineer Corps of the Spanish Army and everyone involved in making this project a success.
