Silbat Advances Long-Duration Energy Storage Technology for Dual-Use Applications in Defense and Renewable Energy Integration

At Silbat, we are pioneering long-duration energy storage (LDES) technology to make variable renewable energy (VRE) sources fully dispatchable, thereby competing on a levelized cost of energy (LCOE) basis with fossil and nuclear power plants.

Innovative Technology

Our groundbreaking approach utilises metal-grade silicon as the primary storage material, leveraging its ultra-high latent heat of fusion. This technology can deliver:

  • Electricity via thermophotovoltaic H2P converters
  • Medium-temperature steam
  • Hot water

Benefits of LDES

This advancement facilitates the sustainable integration of variable renewable energy into the electric grid and enhances energy supply autonomy and resilience for critical infrastructure, including military applications. Importantly, it remains cost-effective while minimising environmental impact.

Recent Engagements

We have actively participated in significant events aligned with our mission. Recently, we attended the 12th National Congress on R&D for Defence and Security in Zamora, Spain, from November 11-13, organised by the Ministerio de Defensa Español under the theme “Driving Research and Development for Sustainable Defence Solutions.”

Additionally, Silbat proudly sponsored the 2nd Forum on Spanish Military Industrial Heritage in Madrid on November 18-19, organised by the Academia de las Ciencias y las Artes Militares and the COIIM Colegio Oficial de Ingenieros Industriales de Madrid. This forum focused on critical discussions regarding dual-use research and development for industrial and technological sovereignty.

We are committed to pushing the boundaries of energy storage technology to create a sustainable and secure future. Stay tuned for more updates.
