Launch of Project ARMIC to Advance Long-Duration Energy Storage Technology

Silbat is thrilled to announce the launch of Project ARMIC, an initiative dedicated to advancing innovative Long-Duration Energy Storage (LDES) technology. This project leverages the latent heat of fusion of silicon and thermophotovoltaic (TPV) devices to create a resilient, self- sufficient energy supply for critical military infrastructure.

Project Objectives

Project ARMIC aims to address strategic challenges associated with reliance on civilian power grids and vulnerabilities to various threats. Key objectives include:

  • Guaranteed Electrical Supply: Ensuring an electrical supply for at least 14 consecutive
days, in line with military resiliency standards.
  • Cost Savings: Providing economic advantages while meeting thermal needs through
    heat storage and integrated cogeneration.
  • Technological Sovereignty: Promoting national technological capabilities applicable in
    both military and civilian contexts.

Collaborative Efforts

To meet these ambitious goals, close collaboration among specialised entities and research organisations is essential. The consortium is led by Silbat Energy Storage Solutions and includes partners such as:

  • Esteyco
  • Generaciones Fotovoltaicas de la Mancha
  • Schunk Group
  • RBZ Embedded Logics

These partners contribute to the research and development of technology, its supply chain, and manufacturing processes. We are also collaborating with renowned research institutions, including:

  • Instituto de Energía Solar – Universidad Politécnica de Madrid
  • Instituto de Cerámica y Vidrio – Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas
  • Robotics and Control Laboratory Robolabo – Universidad Politécnica de Madrid
This multidisciplinary team ensures effective execution and comprehensive coverage of the
    project´s technological challenges.

Funding and Recognition

Co-funded by the Mision 2025 call from CDTI Innovación – Centro para el Desarrollo Tecnológico y la Innovación in Spain, we are proud to share that Project ARMIC has received the highest evaluation score among over 300 consortia that submitted proposals this year. The project held its kickoff meeting on January 29th and will run for the next three years. Silbat is excited to embark on this journey and contribute to a more resilient energy future.

Stay tuned for updates on Project ARMIC and our ongoing advancements in energy storage technology.
